2015

March 31st

St Mary Madalene Church, Willen, Milton Keynes

13%20Portrait%20of%20Robert%20Hooke.JPG

Designed & built in 1680 by Robert Hooke, a friend of Christopher Wren, this beautiful church is a real gem and well worth a visit.

It represented our last delivery before Easter, the fabric chosen is the Bradbury Flamblend "Red Rum". It has a significant amount of wool in the blend and has a warm

feel lending itself to extra comfort. We were asked to do the whole church including the Choir Stalls. We thank all at the church for kindly choosing Safefoam. & finally we got an email

with details of payment and the church warden added:-

If you, on behalf of Safefoam, at any time need a reference for the standard of work and helpfulness, I shall be very happy to supply it.

Good wishes    M M Churchwarden.

March 5th

St Michael's Church, Shotwick, Chester.

Parts of this church go back over 1000 years, including the main door alone which is solid English Oak.

Imagine this door was in place in 1066! Really a proper visit should be made to soak in all the history.

March 4th

St Michael and All Angels, Smethcott Church, Shropshire.

This difficult to find, but well worth the effort, this chapel is on the Long Mynd in Shropshire, England, which is a part of the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The chapel seems to sit on top of the world.

St Mary's Church, Beenham, Berkshire

This old church is full of pieces of interest. All the walls have fantastic murals. More info can be gleened from their website.

We got a letter from the chuchwarden dated 12th March, it contained a cheque for the balance, and this letter below.

Once again we are very grateful and humbled by the lovely comments.

Your pew cushions have received very favourable comments from the congregation and I would lhave no hesitation in recommending your company to others . Mr D. Churchwarden.

All Saints Church, Coleshill, Bucks

First delivery of the day to this spendid church. Our Red Rum fabric looks superb.  A subtle mix of two popular church colours, red and blue.

February

Parish Church, Morecambe, Lancs

Our driver and mate arrived on a Friday afternoon to be met by a friendly couple, and between them all soon had all the Cardinal Wine cushions in place, just in time for the wedding next day!

We got a letter from the church on 27th Feb.

We have had lots of interest and good comments and are very happy with the finished product.

I would like to thank you for all your help and friendly service during the enquiry, ordering and delivery stages, especially the two gentlemen for help getting the various sized cushions on the right pews.

We have viewed the photos on the website which shows how well they look in the church. Mrs M. Churchwarden.

St Tysilios, Selack, Ross on Wye, Herefordshire.

16th December

church layout church banner

Our driver and mate arrived in the dark after a mammoth day of deliveries, mainly to churches we'd been to previously. By the time of this delivery it was night time.

A lovely Mr Atock met the van near Ross and guided them

to this remotest of churches. One day we will get some pictures!

St Andrew's, Cranwell, Lincs

25th November

Steeped in history, see the Saxon scratchings and the Norman arches, and our Diamond Red/Blue!

St Peter & Paul, Yalding, Maidstone, Kent

19th November

Our Diamond Red/Blue looking good.

Swaffham Baptist Church, Norfolk.

Thursday 14th August  2014

St Cuthbert Church, Redhouse, Sunderland.

St Cuthbert Church chose one of our many fabrics not in the usual swatch. This quality hessian terra cotta weave looks superb in the church. The driver and mate were met by an eager pair of helpers & between them, all 110 cushions were soon in place.

Thursday 31st July 2014

St Mary and St Thomas A Becket, Much Birch, Herefordshire.

Cardinal Rouge fabric from Plumbs always looks so striking. A perfect match also for the carpet.

Wednesday 30th July 2014

St Margaret, Rottingdean, Sussex

The red scroll fabric proves to be popular. This church on the south coast couldn't be much further away from the last time we used it on the Isle of Lewis!

St Mary, Sundridge, Sevenoaks, Kent

Another fabric from the Bradbury Flamblend range 009 Artic. This blue took some finding until once again Bradbury had the solution. The patterns for the two pillars arrived at Safefoam at lunchtime on Monday 28th. Foam and fabric cut and delivered on 30th!

St John the Baptist, Meopham, Kent

Here the church has been beautifully restored, and all the pews removed except the choir stalls. The problem was a fabric to match the chairs! No problem for Safefoam.

A fabric from the Bradbury Flamblend range did the trick, the perfect match because it is the same fabric, Cressida.

St Peter and Paul, West Mersea, Colchester, Essex

The driver and mate were met by a very capable pair who had the cushions in place in double quick time. This patterned 100% wool fabric looks fantastic.

These pews were 15 inches front to back.

Friday 24th June 2014

A Further visit to Clitheroe Church

See how the pews are very narrow and don't have a backrest?

We needed a special solution for this lovely church. We needed cut out notches to fit the pew support rail, plus Velcro fasteners to stop any sliding.

The pictures above tell all!

Everybody is pleased with the solution.

We hope that our next visit will be to do more of the pews.

Tuesday 24th June 2014

Selby Abbey, Yorkshire.

The driver had no excuse for losing his way this time. Tourist brown signs led him all the way to the Abbey.

Often called the hidden gem of Yorkshire, this is probably the biggest church we hae had the pleasure of supplying.

The choir are now set to sit in comfort! The fabric chosen is our outstanding "Hoghton Blue".

Wednesday 28th May 2014

All Saints, Stand, Whitefield, Manchester

Back to this fantastic church, more than likely for the last time. This time we provided a new Communion Rail kneeler and an embroidered cushion for the Bishop's Chair.

It has been a great pleasure returning 3 times to All Saints, with cushions for different areas of the church.

The driver also came back smiling with a jar of home produced honey from the kind lady who organised the purchases, in addition to looking after her busy bees.

Of course we had to confiscate the honey from the driver, explaining that perks of this nature would have to be declared to Inland Revenue! And anyway we really like honey........

Friday 4th April 2014

Free Presbyterian Church of Scotland , Close to Suainaval, Isle of Lewis

The driver and mate went via Isle of Skye to deliver to this beautifully situated chapel. The bay close by is typical of this western side of Lewis.

The fabric chosen is one of our brilliant value terra cottas and suits the church so well (Intack Terra Cotta). The cushions were paid for by an anonymous donation.

The donor had seen that the congregation needed a little more comfort, so kindly paid for their pleasure.

Tuesday 27th January 2014

St Andrew's, Sempringham, Lincs

New Gate Post Shot

The two photographs were kindly sent to us by the church warden, the last one taken by us before they were delivered. The fantastic valued fabric is our Diamond Gold/Lady Blue.

Sunday 12th January 2014

St Michael & St John, Clitheroe, Lancs

Our first delivery of the year! St Michaels chose Hopsack Terracotta for their pews, it's a lovely fabric, selected the hundreds available from Plumbs, our major fabric supplier..

These pews are slightly different from most. They have hardly any back to them so require holding in place. You can see discreet use of velcro taping to achieve the right result.

Wednesday 18th December 2013

St Andrews Church, Falkirk

Our driver & mate visited this fantastic church two or three times before this final delivery. They are now on first name terms with the chief minister! (Alastair).

Everybody is so pleased with the project, with the new carpet just fitted, our gang got there and fitted some

of our most challenging cushions to great effect and the full, (& humbling) gratitude of all the Falkirk congregation.

We pulled out all stops to complete the job for Christmas. All in all a complete success!  The fabric used matched perfectly,

it is one from our major supplier, Plumbs, Cardinal Wine with piping. You must agree that it looks superb........

Sunday 8th December 2013

St Nicholas, Peopleton, Pershore, Worcs.

The driver got there in the nick of time and put all the cushions in place before the Christingle Service. We heard from the church that everybody was very happy with the new found comfort.

They chose our Elegent Mini Claret.

Thursday 28th November 2013

St Andrews Church, Falkirk

Our first delivery of a huge order. We were asked to complete the downstairs of the church in time for a very special Communion service. We heard that everyone was happy

with the quality of the cushions. We are returning with the balence of the order (the upstairs) before Christmas.

Friday 25th October 2013

St Cross, Wilstone, Tring. Herts

This church was built on the site of a previous church, in 1877.

They chose our fabulous Abbey Red fabric for their pews and matching kneelers.

Again as in a delivery of the previous day, our driver & mate put everything in place without needing to bother anybody.

On 30th October, a parishioner rang us to say just how pleased everybody in the congregation were with the cushions!

Friday 25th October 2013

All Saints, Warlingham, Surrey

This church is over 750 yrs old. They chose our Diamond Beige PP fabric and the comments were that it was bright and enhanced the lovely old church.

The fantastic wall painting had been painted over in medieval times!

Thursday 24th October 2013

St Lawrence, Stratford Sub Castle, Wiltshire.  A Grade 1 listed building.

This church chose a very attractive Navy fabric. Every pew bench was individually made and all the end curves were different.

On  28th October we received the email below!

Dear Safefoam

I am absolutely delighted with all our cushions. They all fit perfectly and everyone that were in church yesterday were equally delighted.

Our vicar, Tessa started her sermon on yesterday ...'Are we all sitting comfortably?'

Thank you so much for your excellent service in all aspects of bringing this project to a very succesful end.

When I first contaced you back in May I was hopeful that we would be able to have the cushions in time for Christmas.

We were able to raise the funds very quickly (started off by a bequest) and then your quick response once you received our order,

here we are and not the end of October yet.

All the very best to you both and in particular to those who made the cushions to such a high standard.

H.B. (Mrs)

Thursday 24th October 2013

St Mary the Virgin, Charminster

This church chose our very attractive Cardinal Rouge fabric, it goes so well in the church and looks the part.

The church was open when the driver arrived and all was put in place without bothering anybody!

On 30th October we received an email:-----

Dear Safefoam

I have received your invoice today and will pass it to the vicar tomorrow .  We will draw the cheque and get it off to you asap.

By the way, the cushions look fantastic and really lift the church.

Sorry I couldn't be there to receive your people but hope they made it without too much difficulty.

Many thanks for all your help.  Do look us up if you're ever in this neck of the woods.

Kind regards

BT pp St Mary's Charminster PCC

Thursday 3rd October 2013

Llanegryn Church, Gwynedd, Cymru

This pretty 13th Century Church is in a beautiful rural part of Wales. They chose our particularly suitable Hopsack Bark fabric.

The new pew cushions were admired by all who were there to greet our driver and mate.

The screen is very striking and the church should be visited if you are in the area. Google will guide you there.

Thursday 8th August 2013

St Mary's Church, Overton, Basingstoke, Hampshire.

St Mary's Church was our last delivery of a long day. The Communion Rail was recently re-designed and we were honoured to be chosen to produce this challenging product.

Thanks to some excellent paper patterns by the project manager,

we were able to produce this quality kneeler.

Everybody was delighted with the final results and our two drivers were sent off home feeling

pleased with the endeavours of the day behind them. They were hoping for a rewarding bonus. Some hopes!

St Margaret's Church , Ifield, Gravesend, Kent.

St Margaret's Church, Ifield, Gravesend. A rural setting for this delightful Chapel. Our Terra Cotta Gold looks the part.

Burnt Ash Methodist Church , Burnt Ash Hill, Lee, London

Burnt Ash Methodist Church is right on the main road and ought to be visited to see how lovely it is.

Our Elegent Mini Claret fabric looks so well in the church. Comfort is coming! Sorry it's arrived..................

Thursday 1th July 2013

Church of St Michael, Aynho, Banbury, Northants

2nd Delivery

St Michaels Church is prominent in the village, and easy to find. The driver needed something he could cope with after his previous mistakes!

He said it was a great pleasure to put out the cushions in such a lovely church.

Two pictures above are of special interest. The ancient wheeled bier and the ancient chest.

Church of St Paul, Horn Hill, Chalfont St Peter, Bucks

1st Deivery

This was a Driver Error delivery! Speeding down to the Chalfonts, he realised eventually that he knew not where was the church!

The lady responsible was away until weekend. This tested his logistical skills to their somewhat low limit.

He was helped out of his self made predicament by the office staff at the church of St Peter, in Chalfont St Peter.

They allowed him to deliver to their church (there they are on the back pew), until things could be sorted.

Much gratitude was forrthcoming from him. (& us). St Peter's is a large church. St Pauls is a pretty Victorian chapel seen in the pictures.

Tuesday 25th June 2013

Church of the Holy Cross, Uckfield, East Sussex

This was our 3rd delivery to Holy Cross. Church now complete. Many thanks for all the orders!

Thursday 20th June 2013

The Free Church of Scotland, Lochs, Isle of Lewis

This is our furthest ever delivery! The driver and his assistant had a wonderful trip.

The church is being painted so the pew cushions were stored upstairs & we await picures from them.

Above you can see the lovely church taken from above. The Dove of Peace overlooks the congregation and there is a close up of it.

Finally the ladies of the parish made lots of the beautiful flower table displays.

Wednesday 19th June

Auchaber United Church, Forgue, Aberdeenshire

We delivered to this very rural church, a little treasure in the beautiful Aberdeenshire countryside.

We had a letter from the church "Your cheque is on the way.

The cushions are lovely and fit in with the church decor perfectly. All are delighted. A job well done.

Kind regards,

Diane,

Church Elder.

Wednesday 29th May

St Dogfan's Church, Llanrhaeadr ym Mochant

We dropped these cushions at the Presbytery so were unable to photograph in place. I think we'll get pictures later.

Thursday 16th May

St Andrew's Church, Cuffley, Hertfordshire.

This relatively modern church (built in 1965) is full of beautiful fused glass windows.

Our driver fancies his ability with our camera! He decided to go to town.......

The Baptismal Font is so different from the stone one of yesterday, and the sculpture behind the altar demands attention.

We delivered 52 cushions in our turquoise top quality fabric to blend in with the modern glass.

Within an hour of the delivery a church warden rang to say how well the cushions looked and offered thanks for a well timed delivery.

Wednesday 15th May 2013

The Church of the Holy Angels, Lilliput, Poole, Dorset.

Our third delivery of the day. This more modern church at Lilliput had ordered from us previously,

and this navy fabric with piping fits the bill very well. The screen is painted and is rather special,

it was added in 1906.

All at Safefoam thank the church for coming back to us for further cushions.

There are still a good few cushions needed here, so we keep our fingers crossed!

20th May. We heard by phone from the church that members of the congregation are very pleased with the comfy new cushions.

They were also impressed by our helpful delivery men! (We certainly won't be telling them that!).

2nd July   More words of praise from the treasurer! We are delighted with the pew cushions for our Lady Chapel. ..............

Thank you very much for your excellent service. (along with a payment cheque).

All Saints, East Pennard, Shepton Mallet, Somerset.

This small village in the Mendips area of Somerset, has such an old beautiful church.

Here they chose our Henley Claret fabric. This is a quality cushion with piping and suited the church very well.

This was the second delivery of the day at around lunchtime.

St Etheldreda , West Quantoxhead, Taunton, Somerset.

Our driver and mate were up early to deliver to St Etheldreda around 10.30am. Like the Manchester church below this

Somerset church decided on two different fabrics,

The Sawtooth Terracotta for the main body of the church and our very own Hoghton Blue for the choir.

Neither of the covers have piping,

but both suit the pews very well.

Tuesday 30th April

All Saints Church, Stand, Whitefield, Manchester

We were pleased to manufacture this, one of our bigger orders. This magnificent church was built to celebrate the victory of the

Battle of Waterloo and it was also suggested at the time to be a way of

pacifying the participants in the Peterloo Riots of 1819. The cushions were paid for by a bequest from a member of the congregation.

We were asked to embroider some of

the cushions to honour the lady. The church has distinct areas, so the Lady Chapel and the choir were fitted with different fabrics.

The overall effect is pleasing.

Within an hour of the delivery a church warden rang to say how well the cushions looked and offered thanks for a well timed delivery.

20th May An amazingly flattering letter from the PCC secretary. It makes us all blush too much to copy it here! here's some of it................

People have commented excitedly on the shaping of of the cushion ends to match the shape at the ends of the pews

and the fact that the cushions are reversible, the contrasting piping (serendipity!).........................and not one unfavourable comment has been made--that is almost unheard of! The final touch--

the embroidered dedication of the McVicar bequest on random

cushions has been quite a talking point--people go round spotting them! So thank you very much for that as well. Altogether the feeling is that the church is now a much more presentable

place in which to welcome newcomers and certainly we are all enjoying

sitting in comfort.

Wednesday 27th March

St Ffraid Church, Llansantffraid, Powys

Everyone at Safefoam is delighted to complete this order for the whole of the Llanstffraid church.

Rev Pam & Rev Mike Powell have a number of churches to look after, and we've done some work at most of them!

Our driver now knows the route without his Satnav..........

We needed to complete the work for special dedication services connected with all of the recent renovations to St Ffraid's,

the worry was the abundant snow. Rev Pam told us that the Easter donkey

had to be cancelled due to the weather!  The picture above of the gravestones is interesting, during the renovations these stones

were found under some older carpetting, some dating back to 1775. The fabric for the pews is fairly new and looks so good,

& it will look even better when the new carpet arrives.

Wednesday 27th March

St Giles Church, Tattenhoe, Bucks

These Lady Blue pew cushions were delivered by courier, so we await some pictures from the church.

Monday 18th March

St James Church, Brindle, Chorley, Lancs

We were lucky to be chosen to fit out this whole church with pew cushions and kneelers.

Everyone said how good the new cushions looked. This particular fabric is 100% wool. Very durable and easy to clean.

This beautiful church is within a couple of miles of our office. No long journey then for our driver.

Good news for us because he won't be getting any food allowances or overnight expenses!

We got a lovely card from the chuch warden..................

The pew cushions are now in place and looking quite splendid.

A very big thank you for the quality of goods and the very efficient and pleasant manner you dealt with our enquiries and order.

Our new "Wesminster Abbey" look was much admired by the congregation at our

Palm Sunday service, during which David Ward dedicated the new cushions.

Many mant thanks,

A.Pearson.

Wednesday 13th March

Holy Trinity Church, Dawley, Telford

Final Delivery of the day

This lovely church is recovring from a severe arson attack by vandals. Much of one corner of the church was damaged.

The whole of the church was smoke damaged. We wish them luck with the new cushions,

they will help to bring comfort where there has been pain.

St Mary the Virgin Church, Beltinge, Herne Bay

First Delivery of the day

After an overnight stay in Canterbury, our driver and mate were in Reculver outside Herne Bay for their first delivey of the day.

The new cushions and kneelers were for the whole church, and were

much appreciated by the church warden, as you can see from the email below, received on the same day as the delivery.

The lovely sketch of the church, seen above is available for purchase by the rear door.

"I have just returned from the church and was delighted to find all the new cushions in place. How smart they look!

I had a quick sit but look forward to trying them out properly on Sunday.

Thank you for your excellent service, I didn't even need to be there.

The man/men left everything neat and tidy and called me later to let me know it had been done.

Will have no hesitation in recommending you to others.

Kind Regards"

Tueday 4th February

FP Church Stornoway, Isle of Lewis

We relied on DR Macleod to deliver this precious cargo all the way to Stornoway. A huge container wagon picked up here in

Preston and avoiding terrible storms duly delivered to Stornoway for us. We are most grateful to one of the congregation of the church for these lovely pictures.

We also got a message All reports so far are that they are very comfortable and that the congregation are very pleased with them.

Our pew cushions arrived at church on Tuesday and we are delighted with them.

Thank you very much for the prompt and efficient service.........
